This July, Acor Orthopaedic held its first summer barbecue in years, bringing together our dedicated team for a day of delicious food and camaraderie. The event provided an opportunity for everyone to unwind and enjoy a hearty barbecue meal, fostering a sense of unity and team spirit among colleagues. Acor Values and Team SpiritThe barbecue was not just about food; it was also a celebration of Acor Orthopaedic’s core values. We believe in fostering a strong sense of community and teamwork, and events like these help us reinforce these values. Our Acor Values logo was proudly displayed throughout the event, reminding us of our commitment to quality, innovation, and collaboration.     New Company T-Shirts and Design ContestOne of the most exciting moments of the day was the unveiling of our new company t-shirts. Earlier this year, we held a company-wide t-shirt design contest, encouraging creativity and participation from all team members. At the barbecue, we proudly showcased the winning designs and handed out the new t-shirts to everyone. The summer barbecue was a resounding success, bringing our team closer together and reinforcing the values that make Acor Orthopaedic a great place to work. In 2022, Acor Orthopaedic took a significant step in advancing education within the orthotics and prosthetics community. Through various initiatives, we have provided substantial resources, knowledge, and hands-on experience to students and professionals across the nation. Material Donations to Salus University We began by donating approximately $4,000 worth of materials to the inaugural Master of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics class at Salus University (now Salus at Drexel University) in August 2022. These donations included 12”x18” samples, AFO Gauntlets, old braces, shoe inserts, Impression Foam, and our Acor Materials Sampler and catalogs. Educational Presentations Recognizing the need for alternative materials during the pandemic, we created the “Soft Interface Materials Data & Testing” presentation. This ABC-approved course helps professionals identify suitable materials when their preferred options are unavailable. Participants earn 0.75 CEUs from ABC upon completing the course. Initially offered virtually to VA Fabrication Labs, we later expanded to in-person sessions at the Cleveland VA and a virtual educational luncheon with 118 VA participants, who earned 1.25 CEUs. Interactive Tinker Boxes Our Tinker Boxes are a cornerstone of our educational efforts. Sent to universities across the U.S. at no cost, these boxes contain 10-12 samples of EVA, PU, PE materials, textiles, metatarsal pads and bars, and an Acor Materials Sampler. Additionally, they include interactive materials used in our “Soft Interface Materials Data & Testing” class. Feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive. Sustainable Practices To create these Tinker Boxes, we repurpose scrap materials from our warehouse, cutting them into 5”x11” strips. This not only reduces waste but also provides valuable educational resources. The development of these boxes was a collaborative effort with Salus University and has continued to evolve. Expanding Collaborations Our presentations are continually refined and expanded. We now collaborate with Jeff Wilson at Curbell Plastics, co-presenting to students. We also adapt the contents of the Tinker Boxes to ensure they remain relevant and beneficial to student education. Acor Orthopaedic is committed to supporting the growth and development of future orthotics and prosthetics professionals through these innovative educational initiatives. We look forward to continuing these efforts and expanding our impact in the field.

We are thrilled to share an exciting update about our ongoing partnership with Towards Employment. Our very own Tim Wenzel, VP of Operations & Administration, has been invited to join Towards Employment’s newly established Employer Advisory Board (EAB). This invitation is a testament to the strong relationship we’ve built with Towards Employment and the impact we’ve made together in the community. Towards Employment, a nonprofit organization, has been a beacon of hope for over 210,000 job seekers in Greater Cleveland since 1976. Their mission is to help individuals prepare for, gain, and retain meaningful employment. By providing support services, coaching, and forging partnerships with local employers like Acor Orthopaedic, Towards Employment helps build strong career paths and foster economic stability. The newly formed Employer Advisory Board is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing Towards Employment’s programming by incorporating insights from industry leaders. As an EAB member, Tim will bring Acor’s unique perspective to the table, helping shape strategies that address recruitment, retention, and the advancement of diverse talent across various industries. Tim’s involvement on the board will provide us with an invaluable opportunity to deepen our relationship with Towards Employment, improve our own hiring practices, and contribute to the success of the broader community. The EAB will meet quarterly, beginning with its inaugural meeting on September 12th, 2024, at the Towards Employment offices. This partnership aligns perfectly with Acor’s core values of collaboration, community engagement, and commitment to creating opportunities. We are proud of Tim’s appointment to the board and excited about the positive impact this will have on our community and our organization.
